United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC) on Saturday declared that a public convention to derive a final verdict of the people in Manipur would be organised in the first week of January, 2024.

As such, the committee called upon all the people residing in Manipur to participate in conjuring an absolute resolution.

Speaking to the media at Hatta Golapati Community Hall, Imphal, UMPC spokesperson Raees Ahamed Tampak asserted that the convention had been called to establish a firm stance of the people in connection with ongoing conflict which has inflicted suffering and violence of insurmountable proportions.

“UMPC will host the convention to address the traumatic events that the people had been going through for the last eight months,” he said.

He informed that the time and venue of the convention would be declared very shortly.
He further highlighted that the committee would also make arrangements for Manipuris outside the state to take part in the convention.

“The convention will be a comprehensive meeting and will take the perspectives of all people to conclude on a firm resolution,” he said.

He pointed out that the meeting would mainly focus on the role of communities in Manipur and the measures they can initiate in resolving the conflict.

Meanwhile, UMPC co-convenor Maulanah Habibula highlighted people from all walks of life who had contributed in striving to resolve the crisis.

He also noted that the sentimental opinion expressed by a prominent Meitei Pangal figure during a Nupi Lan observance on December 12 was not the collective opinion of the entire community.

He urged people not to drag the irresponsible comment out of proportion and maintained that such actions should not be used to divide the people during these trying times.
