A public convention at Sagolband Tera in Imphal West on Sunday resolved to unite all local clubs and CSOs to collectively tackle the challenges faced by the state and called for united actions to restore peace.
Over 1,000 people gathered at the event organised by 36 local clubs under Patsoi AC and hosted by the Ideal Club under the banner, ‘Present Burning Crisis of Manipur’, in an effort to address the ongoing crisis and expedite the restoration of peace in the state.
During the convention, speakers expressed deep concern over the SoO militants' alleged defiance of ground rules and criticised the Central government for its alleged negligence in restoring peace.
Speaking as one of the speakers, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang highlighted the issue of state forces being confined to defensive measures when attacked by Kuki militants.
Saying that solely defending from attacks would result in increased casualties, he stressed the need to launch operations to remove Kuki militants.
The convention passed resolutions urging the government to expedite the restoration of peace and normalcy while demanding the abrogation of the SoO agreement.
Other resolutions included the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), protection of the state's integrity, and safeguarding the indigenous population.
Additionally, the convention raised concerns about illegal immigration, poppy plantation, narco-terrorism, deforestation, and encroachment in reserved and protected forest areas.
On the sidelines of the convention, vice-president of Ideal Club Hidangmayum Manoj Sharma told the media that the primary focus of the convention was the early restoration of peace in Manipur.
The resolutions adopted during the convention will be implemented at the grassroots level to ensure lasting peace and coexistence in the state, he added.
Notably, the convention saw the participation of representatives from various CSOs, including COCOMI, UCM, AMUCO as well as social activists and academicians.
