Protesters demand release of missing persons

Convinced that the two missing persons might have been abducted by suspected militants under SoO, protestors demanded their immediate release.

Local women on Saturday staged a sit-in protest in connection with the report of two missing persons at Maklang in Imphal West.

According to reports, one Y Kirankumar and Atom Samananda of Khumbong, who had gone to distribute relief items at Sangaithel area in Imphal West, went missing since May 6 morning.

Convinced that the two missing persons might have been abducted by suspected militants under SoO, the protestors demanded their immediate release.

A search operation was carried out for two days but the two missing persons are yet to be traced, sources said.

Speaking to the media, executive member of Maklang Makha Leikai Meira Paibi, Yelam ongbi Achoubi
appealed to whoever was responsible to release the two individuals on humanitarian grounds,
considering that their family members are going through untold miseries.

She also called for peace among all the communities settled in the state for restoration of normalcy at
the earliest.
