Womenfolk of Mana Engkhol, Phaknung, Kangla Sangomshang and Kangla Sifai Chingarel on Saturday staged a protest decrying the alleged unprovoked actions of MLA Leisangthem Susindro on Friday night.

On the sidelines of the protest, Kangla Sangomshang Meira Paibi secretary Thounaojam Bidyaluxmi told the media that the minister had been cooperating with the people since long ago and the people had voiced certain concerns about the incident at Sabungkhok, in which two women, believed to be secret informers, were held by the people.

“We know the minister must be under immense stress due to the present crisis but attacking the people instead of clarifying the peoples’ doubts is wrong,” she said.

She maintained that several people of the area were about to head to the minister’s residence when a huge unruly mob torched the godown at Chingarel.

“The mob were angry at the minister’s despicable actions which led to the untoward incident; we had also tried to control the mob but were not successful,” she said.

She alleged claimed that the JAT regiment personnel which were sent in to control the mob started vandalising the vehicles parked next to the local club. They destroyed two vehicles and one vehicle is still missing, she claimed.

She said the missing vehicle is a Honda Activa bearing number MNO3A 3513.

“The people will not remain silent if we hear the vehicle has been used to create further unrest and confusion among the people,” she said.

It may be mentioned that two individuals were reportedly hurt in the incident at Chingarel, one is Irom Nganthoi who sustained injuries from a tear gas shell and the other is Konthoujam Dede who sustained injuries from a stray bullet casing. Both are from Kangla Sangomshang.

Meanwhile, Konthoujam Dede refuted the minister’s claim of not firing any rounds during the incident and instead blaming it on his security team.

She recalled that the incident occurred when the minister fired his gun to ward off the mob who were thronging his vehicle.
