Hundreds protested against Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga in front of Kangla Western Gate in Imphal on Thursday, but state police foiled their plan to burn the effigy of the CM by pulling off the effigy from the hands of the protestors before it could be set on fire.

The protest was organised by ‘My Manipur’ against Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga for interfering in the internal issue of Manipur and organising a rally in Mizoram, showing solidarity of the Kuki-Zo people of Manipur.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, ‘My Manipur’ spokesperson Mangangleima Salainganbi said the people of Manipur strongly condemn the act of Mizoram Chief Minister for insulting the people of Manipur and Chief Minister N Biren Singh during a rally organised in Mizoram supporting ‘separate administration’ demand.

She said Zoramthanga need not interfere in the internal issue of Manipur but that he should focus on his own state. Zoramthanga should not try to disintegrate the Northeastern states of India, she added.

Chief Minister Biren Singh has been taking various steps to protect reserved forests in Manipur that have been affected with mass poppy cultivation, especially in hilly regions of Manipur. And due to the mass poppy plantation, the climatic condition of Manipur has been affected drastically, she said.

CM Biren wanted to complete the international border fencing work while Zoramthanga is against international border fencing so that illegal immigrants can enter in India, she alleged, adding that Zoramthanga wanted to increase his vote bank by allowing the refugees of Myanmar to enter in India.

She urged the India government for immediate implementation of NRC in Manipur, destruction of mass poppy plantation in the hilly regions of Manipur that is being carried out by narco-terrorists.

The protestors held placards that read, “save Manipur from armed Kuki Immigrants militants from Myanmar”, “save territorial integrity of Manipur”, “no separate administration”, “Mizoram CM don’t interfere in Manipur issue”, “stop narco-terrorism in Manipur” and others.

After about 30 minutes of the protest, the protestors tried to burn the effigy of Mizoram CM Zoranthang but swift action of state police prevented them from doing so.
