Hundreds of Meira Paibis, CSO members and club members on Monday staged a sit-in-protest at Kwakeithel Bazar against the demand for separate administration by Kuki MLAs.

The protesters also demanded abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Kuki militants.

The protest demonstration was organised under the aegis of the All-Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) with the objective to bring back peace and normalcy in the state.

Over 300 people attended the sit-in-protest by displaying placards with slogans such as “State government should do immediate and bold action”, “Stop divide and rule policy”, “Flush out the Kuki terrorist from Manipur”, “Central government should show interest at the present issue of Manipur”, “State government should do immediate and proper arrangement for the charred villagers.

Speaking on the occasion, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang said that there seems to be a hidden agenda behind the ongoing crisis as the Central government did not show much interest in the communal crisis of the state.

“During the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah, no concrete measures for solution of the ongoing crisis in the state was announced but a separate route and air transport systems through helicopters for the Kuki community," Nando said.

Nando further questioned the agenda of the Central government in using the Assam Rifles personnel in fuelling the ongoing crisis by supporting the armed Kuki militants. He said that due to the act of the Assam Rifles people have started stopping them from entering the villages. It seems that the Assam Rifles want the crisis to continue so that the central government could impose president rule in the state, Nando added.
