Reacting on the report where a CRPF jawan was allegedly caught planting a ‘bomb trap’ at Noney district on Saturday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday said that he will not compromise on any such scandalous act by security forces.

He was replying to a query raised by the media on the sideline of the launching of Flybig's maiden flight from Imphal to Tezu and Guwahati at Imphal Airport.

On Saturday, a CRPF jawan was caught red-handed by the locals while he was allegedly planting a 'bomb trap' at the site of Jadonang Memoral in Puiluan Village under Nungba sub-division, Noney district where renovation work is going on.

According to reports, the jawan was set free after the village court imposed a fine and an agreement was signed with the CRPF.

Against this backdrop, Meira paibis of Langathel Thingel Leikai in Thoubal district on Monday demonstrated a sit-in protest against the incident in which a Chinese-made hand grenade was found at a residence in Langathel Thingel Leikai on Sunday.

The meira paibis demonstrated the sit-in protest, demanding the miscreants who placed the bomb to give a clarification.

The protesters displayed placards which read ‘Give reason for placing the bomb’, ‘No bomb around civilians’, and ‘We want peace’.

In the protest, owner of the residence where the bomb was found Puyam (O) Leibi, wife of Puyam Tenden said that her eldest son, who was declared ‘wanted’ by the NIA, had not returned home ever since he ran away.

She added that few individuals who claimed to be from the army had frequently visited their home asking for the whereabouts of her eldest son. She urged the individuals to stop harassing the family. “My husband has been bedridden. Our family is a humble family who live by earning daily wages,” she said.

She appealed to the authorities concerned to identify the miscreants who placed the bomb at their home.

One protester, Mayengbam Ibemcha condemned the incident and appealed to the miscreants responsible to give reason for placing the bomb around civilians. “It is suspicious that the army had arrived as soon as the hand grenade was found, and told the family that they will be taking the bomb and even told the family no to inform the police,” she said. She commended the Khongjom police and the bomb squad for defusing the bomb.

It can be mentioned that the eldest son of Tenden, Sanatomba had reportedly not returned home ever since he ran away. He was reportedly declared ‘wanted’ by the NIA for his alleged involvment in the bomb attack of an army convoy at Singhak sub division, Churachandpur district on November 14 of 2021 allegedly. The bomb attack killed seven Assam Rifles personnel including an Assam Rifles commanding officer along with his wife and their son.
