Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday broke his silence on Manipur violence that has been persisting for more than two months, after a video showing two women being paraded naked by a violent mob went viral on social media and it drew strong condemnation and fury across the country.
"The Manipur incident is shameful... My heart is full of pain and anger." Modi said, while speaking during the pre-session at Parliament House. The monsoon session began Thursday and will continue till August 11.
Assuring the nation that the law will take its course, Modi said the guilty will not be spared.
"I assure the nation, no guilty will be spared. The law will take its course with all its might. What has happened to daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven," Modi said.
Meanwhile, according to reports, the government has issued an order to Twitter and other social media platforms against resharing of the videos of the two women being paraded naked in Manipur.
The incident reportedly took place on May 4 when the comunal violence spread across Manipur, and an accused in the case was arrested on Wednesday.
According to police sources, a suo moto case of abduction, gang-rape and murder has been registered at Nongpok Sekmai police station in connection with the incident that reportedly took place on May 4.
