President’s Medals for 19 Fire Service, Home Guards and Civil Defence personnel from Northeast states

The President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to two personnel from Assam - Tarun Baro, Sub-Officer and Khargeswar Rajbongshi, Leading Fireman; and one in Sikkim - Budhi Lall Subba, Sub Fire Officer.

As many as 19 personnel of the Fire Service, Home Guards and Civil Defence in Northeast Indian states were listed as awardees of the President’s Medals for Gallantry, Distinguished Service and Meritorious Service on the occasion of India’s Republic Day 2022 celebration on January 26.

Two personnel from Assam - Tarun Baro, Sub-Officer and Khargeswar Rajbongshi, Leading Fireman; and one in Sikkim - Budhi Lall Subba, Sub Fire Officer were named for the President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service.

The Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service was awarded to five personnel from Assam - Upen Ch. Boro, Sub-Officer; Madan Chandra Kalita, Sub-Officer; Adit Chandra Kalita, Sub-Officer; Md Zer Rahman, Leading Fireman and Md Anowar Hussain, Leading Fireman.

One each from Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura were also awarded the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service - Tandronath Kharbani, Driver Constable, Sonam Bhutia, Sub Fire Officer and Babul Sarkar, Sub-Officer.

The President’s Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to one from Meghalaya - Willy Nonglang, Dy Controller (CD).

Four from Assam - Jadab Kalita, Platoon  Commander (HG); Pratap Chandra Deka, Havilder (HG); Robin Chetia, Naik (HG) and Dr Prasanna Malla Buzar Baruah, Dy Divisional Warden (CD) were named for the Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal For Meritorious Service Awards.

One from Tripura - Anindya Kumar Battacharya, Director (CD) and two from Meghalaya - Sangma Kukesh, Sub-Inspector (HG) and Liver Lyngdoh, Havildar (HG) - were also awarded the President’s Medal.

The President’s Medal for Gallantry and President’s Medal for Distinguished Services as well as Gallantry Medal and Meritorious Services Medals are awarded to the personnel of Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards on Republic Day and Independence Day each year.

In all, on the occasion of Republic Day, 2022, 42 personnel have been awarded Fire Service Medals, the Union Home Affairs Ministry stated. In addition, 25 personnel or volunteers are also awarded Home Guard and Civil Defence Medals on the occasion of the Republic Day, 2022. Of these, President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service and Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service are awarded to 2 personnel and 23 personnel respectively.
