Preparatory Support Scheme for handloom weavers soon: Minister Nemcha Kipgen

Wrapped beams, pim with weft yarn and bobbins with warp yarn will be available at 50 per cent on the cost of yarn under the Preparatory Support Scheme, says Manipur Textiles Minister.

Manipur Textiles Minister Nemcha Kipgen on Tuesday said wrapped beams, pim with weft yarn and bobbins with warp yarn will be available at 50 per cent on the cost of yarn while announcing that a new scheme "Preparatory Support Scheme" to support the handloom weavers will be launched shortly. 

She made the announcement during the inauguration of a Common Facility Centre (CFC) at Haorang Sabal Block Level Cluster at IDPH Project of Imphal West at Salam Village on Tuesday.

Kipgen went on to state that the state has rich handloom and handicrafts which are loved and encouraged by the people all over the world.

The newly inaugurated CFC will help in empowering the women and give the status of financial independence, she apprised the women to maintain the CFC properly and make best use of it.

Lamsang MLA S Rajen in his speech maintained that the CFC has been set up to make women financially and economically independent.

He said even though the state has its own handicrafts products most of the items are being exported from outside the state.

Encouraging the public to make use of the make in Manipur products including dresses, he said in this manner the economy of the state will grow and the weavers will also have a sustainable livelihood.

The function was also attended by chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd Kh Ibomcha among others.
