Police recover seven bodies from Sugnu

The combined team of Sugnu Police and Assam Rifles recovered four decomposed bodies from areas near Nazareth village.

With tension still boiling in various areas, Sugnu in Kakching district has also surfaced as a ground for shootouts between Kuki militants and combined state and central forces.

In Sugnu, the conflict erupted on May 28 when the Kuki militants allegedly threw the first blow, setting off a chain of contention between Meiteis and Kukis. However, several individuals reportedly went missing or were presumed dead in the initial face-off on May 28.

 On Friday, a combined force of Sugnu Police and Assam Rifles recovered seven bodies from various locations around the Sugnu region. The bodies had been sent to different medical institutions for post-mortem and their identity was yet to ascertain by the time of filing this report.

The combined team of Sugnu Police and Assam Rifles recovered four decomposed bodies from areas near Nazareth village, which is a designated SoO camp of militant outfit KNA, while Sugnu police also recovered another three charred bodies near Lanching village on Friday.

All the bodies were brought to Sugnu Police Station and to different medical institutions for post-mortem.

One of the residents informed that as many as 10 people went missing in the conflict near Nazareth village on May 28.  However, it may be mentioned that the exact figure of casualties is yet to be ascertained.
