Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday, once again, said that the top priority of the Modi government is peace in Manipur and the Northeast region.

This statement comes almost a year after the minister made the same statement with regards to the Manipur crisis during his four-day visit to the state in 2023.

Amit Shah was addressing a campaign gathering at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound in Imphal on Monday which was organized by BJP Manipur Pradesh as a part of the political campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

One of the pandals fell down as Shah was speaking to the crowd, injuring some of those who gathered at the venue, but that did not deter him from continuing with his speech.

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said that it was at Moirang where Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the Tricolor and proclaimed Bharat’s independence.

He said this election is not between the Congress and the BJP, but between the forces that want to break Manipur and unite Manipur. Wherever the congress party goes they talk about division. They were the ones that divided the nation, the HM said.

“Lately, they are peddling the narrative of dividing the nation into North India and South India. They took the agenda of dividing Manipur. But I want to clarify here that no one can dare to divide Manipur. We will not let anyone break Manipur,” said Shah.

He claimed that Modi also brought peace to the Northeast which was torn by decades-long separatist and armed movements. More than 9,000 insurgents have surrendered arms. The government has also reduced the area of AFSPA. Modi has come to the Northeast 70 times and he made 700 tours of the Northeast, said the union home minister.

Recalling previous incidents, Shah said in the Naga-Kuki violence 750 were killed; 100 were killed in the Meitei-Pangal violence and 325 were killed in Kuki Paite violence.

“I want to tell you that in this small state, there is a conspiracy going on to change the demography through infiltration. However, the Modi government has decided to secure Manipur by constructing borders along Myanmar. We have also ended the Free Movement Regime that was used to traffic narcotics,” said Shah.

The gathering was participated by BJP state president, A Sharda Devi, office bearers of the party, ministers, MLAs including Chief Minister N Biren Singh, former union minister Th Chaoba and BJP candidate for inner parliamentary constituency, Th Basanta Kumar.
