The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Tuesday lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur even once during the ongoing crisis, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has visited the state thrice.
Addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan in Imphal, MPCC president K Meghachandra accused Modi of being “scared” of the people of Manipur and criticised him for prioritising foreign tours over addressing the state’s issues.
He said it was “a pity” that Modi chose to visit Russia after being re-elected as PM, while Manipur was struggling with floods and ethnic unrest.
In contrast, Rahul Gandhi visited Manipur soon after becoming the Opposition leader, demonstrating his commitment to the people, he added.

He maintained it is also unfortunate that Modi spoke about Manipur in the recently concluded Parliament session for only around eight minutes, only when the opposition leaders and the MPs of Manipur pressed and protested to speak about Manipur
Meghachandra even stated that the Congress is ready to remain silent and give full support if the government is committed to restoring peace in Manipur within a specific time.
Further stating that Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur was purely a humanitarian visit with a clear message of peace without crossing any political boundaries, he extended gratitude to all the supporters and well-wishers of Rahul Gandhi during his visit.
Stating that memorandums were served to Rahul from various communities during his visit, the president said that the memorandums will be a suggestion in raising the Manipur issue in Parliament by the opposition leader.
