AICC observer Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday strongly hit back at the BJP goverment and terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi "master of lies", said Modi recused himself again during the public rally held at Khangabok, Thoubal district, which he joined virtually.

Speaking to the media at the office of MPPC in Imphal West, Jairam Ramesh refuted three strong allegations levelled against the Congress party by the Prime Minister and Union Home minister Amit Shah earlier on Tuesday.

The two BJP leaders alleged that the Congress encourages militancy in Manipur, divides hill and valley and fails to tackle drug related issues, he said, countering that these are all the active works which have been currently vitalised by the BJP in Manipur.

Asserting that the Congress never encouraged militancy, Jairam Ramesh said it is the BJP which has been actively using anti-social elements as their proxies to blatantly intimidate people to vote for the BJP, he added.

Regarding the drug issues in Manipur, he pointed out that it is the BJP who dispatched a druglord as their candidate and had released a drug kingpin two years ago. Moreover, the BJP has not taken up any initiative to control the flow of the drugs from Myanmar, he continued.

The AICC observer also contended that the Congress always sticks to the constitutional obligation given under the Article 371 (C) and has been defending the territorial integrity of the state and works for the unity of both hills and valley.

The stands of O Ibobi for protecting the integrity of Manipur when he was the chief minister of Manipur and the handing over the Kangla Fort to the public domain is a clear-cut example, he added.

In contrast to it, the BJP never fulfilled the rights given by the Article 371 (C) to the people of hills, he said, adding that failure to conduct the ADC election in their five years regime is the example.

The Congress leader also expressed strong dissatisfaction on the issuance of bail order to the six main accused who were allegedly involved in the murdered of (late) N Rohit after preponing the date of bail hearing.

Late N Rohit was shot dead by some miscreants at his residence during a pre-poll violence at Heirok in Thoubal district on the intervening night of December 21 and 22, 2021.

“Releasing of such criminals before the completion of the election is a deliberate political move of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister N Biren to spread fear and intimidate the voters of Heirok AC to vote for BJP,” alleged the AICC observer.

Moreover, it is totally against the memorandum served to the CEO, Manipur on February 16 and such preponing of a bail hearing is the first of its kind. There is a big conspiracy behind, he contended.

“Organising of the public rally for Modi and Amit Shah in Thoubal district clearly shows how desperate the BJP is,” he said, adding that whatever it may be the Congress party will make a clean sweep in Thoubal district.
