Central forces allegedly assaulted a 25-year-old person with disability and his father at their residence while searching for bandh supporters at Khurai Thangjam Leikai Chingangbam Leirak in Imphal East on Tuesday.
The father-son duo, who were said to be injured in the assault, have been identified as one Thaonaojam Nonichand (60) and his son Thaonaojam Ibungo of Khurai Thangjam Leikai Chingangbam Leirak, Imphal East.
Supporting the 48-hour shutdown imposed across the state over the arrest of five village volunteers, bandh supporters blocked Telipati road with wooden logs and burning tyres. To disperse the bandh supporters, state police had to fire tear gas shells.
One of the bandh supporters told media that, in support of the 48 hours bandh, locals of the area also blocked Telepati road and since morning, state forces have been firing tear gas shells to disperse the agitators.
Later, some SF jawans forcibly entered the residence of Nonichand and allegedly assaulted him and his physically-challenged son by dragging them from their room to the courtyard, she added.
Nonichand has been undergoing treatment due to poor health condition and his son is also a disabled person. If the central forces continu similar action on innocent people, then what would happen, she questioned.
Bruise marks were seen on both knees and on the back of Ibungo and there were bruises on the face and back of Nonichand too.
