Peace committee condemns Kuki militants' act of 'terrorism'

The Phoubakchao Meitei and Meitei Pangal peace committee of Mayang Imphal and Imphal West have strongly condemned the act of "terrorism" of Kuki militants under SoO and decrying the act, the people of Phoubakchao staged a one-day sit-in-protest at Phoubakchao Ema Phouoibi Keithel on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media, president of the committee, Md Zenun, said during his visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah should take necessary steps to return the Kuki SoO militants to their respective designated camps. The act of Kuki SoO militants is an act of terrorism as they are shooting the innocent using sophisticated weapons, he added.

The Muslim community strongly condemns such acts of terrorism, he added.

Secretary of the committee, Tiken Singh, said after the eruption of the May 3 communal clash, many people have been stranded and the committee has been providing necessary assistants for them.

He urged the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to bring peace in Manipur by suspending the SoO agreement with Government of India and Kuki militants. People of Manipur want peace not war among each other, said Tiken.

Meanwhile, Keirao, Urup, Kiyamgei Peace and Reconciliation Co-ordinating Committee also organised a one day sit-in-protest under the banner “Peace and Reconciliation in the State of Manipur”.

They held placards that read, “we want peace”; “protect integrity of Manipur”; “Implement NRC in Manipur” and others.
