The Peace and Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) on Saturday expressed strong dissatisfaction over a statement made by Bhakta Charan Das, the general secretary of the AICC, regarding the origin of the ongoing Manipur crisis.
The statement in question, which recently went viral on social media platforms, alleged that the Meitei community was responsible for initiating the crisis.
During a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, the PDCC demanded clear and unequivocal clarification from the Congress party leadership and the Manipur MP candidates affiliated with the INC.
The committee sought to ascertain the official stance of the party on the controversial remarks made by its general secretary.
President of PDCC, Leimapokpam Joy highlighted the severe hardships and challenges faced by the people of Manipur as a consequence of the ongoing crisis.
“It is truly unfortunate to witness such an irresponsible statement from a leader of a national party at a time when many are diligently working towards restoring peace and stability in Manipur,” he lamented.
Joy further emphasised the importance of political leaders being well-informed and grounded in the realities and facts on the ground before making public statements on sensitive issues such as the Manipur crisis.
He also urged CSOs in Manipur to thoroughly study the matter and contribute to fostering a more informed and constructive dialogue on the situation.
