Over 7 kg opium seized, one arrested in Churachandpur

One person hailing from Molcham village, Churachandpur district was arrested for possession of opium.

One person has been arrested and opium weighing over 7.626 kilogram seized from his posession along Rengkai road, Churachandpur district at around 8 am Saturday, police sources said.

The police said the arrested person has been identified as Jangkhokam Touthang, 32, of SL Molcham village, Churachandpur district, presently staying at Sangaikot UPC veng, in the same district.

Acting on an input from sub-inspector Letminlal Suantak of the same police station to officer-in-charge of Churachandpur police station that one Maroon colour Bolero bearing registration number MN04A 1583 was transporting opium by an unknown person towards Churachandpur town along Rengkai road, a team of Churachandpur police station and Sangaikot police station kept a vigil along the road early Saturday.

At around 6:30 am, the targeted vehicle was intercepted at Rengkai road. On verification, the driver of the vehicle (Jangkhokam) was detained, police said.

The vehicle along with Jangkhokam was taken to Churachandpur police station for further checking of the vehicle.

A requisition was made to the district magistrate, Churachandpur district for deputing one executive magistrate as required under section NDPS Act and accordingly, SDC, Churachandpur, Janggoulen Lupho was detailed.

On thorough checking of the Bolero in the presence of the executive magistrate, the police team detected nine plastic packets containing suspected opium kept concealed under the floor mat of the co-driver seat.

On weighing the nine packets, it was found to weigh 7.626 kg. The suspected Opium, Bolero and a Mobile phone were seized from his possession.

A case under FIR number 158(10)2022 CCP-PS u/s 18(c)/60(3) NDPS Act has been registered for further investigation.
