One more Sainik School in Manipur for girls: CM

The state government decided to establish one more Sainik School to produce more women in the Army, CM Biren said.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren on Monday announced that one more Sainik School will be established especially for girls in the state to import women into the Army.

He was speaking on the side-line of a mega ex-service rally held at Koirengei on Monday.

He said that the state government decided to establish the school in order to be able to produce more women in the Army. The step has been taken under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also given his approval, the CM said.

He said that the area for the construction of the school has been identified in Bishnupur district and targets to complete construction within 1-2 years. He further said that the Indian army has one of the highest enrolment rates per capita and has praised the Northeast, particularly Manipur for its contribution to nation building.

He informed the audience about various welfare schemes for ex-servicemen (ESM) undertaken by the state government. The prominent one is Enhancement of Cash Rewards to Gallantry Medal Awardees and Infrastructure Development projects of Rajya Sainik Boards. The CM also felicitated the War Widows, Gallantry Medal Awardees and Paid Homage to the Bravehearts of Manipur, who had laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The mega ex-servicemen (ESM) rally of all districts of Manipur was organised by Red Shield Division of Spear Corps at Koirengei, Imphal West district.

Brigadier Neil John, SM deputy GOC Red Shield Division welcomed the veterans and their family members. He thanked them for their sacrifice and services to the nation and urged them to keep contributing towards social and nation building.

On the occasion, Grievance Cells from Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pensions), Record Offices of various regiments and services, SPARSH and SUVIGYA cell were set up to ascertain and resolve the issues faced by the veterans and their families. Information Stalls of Army Recruitment Office, ECHS Polyclinic, Director General of Resettlement, Skill Development and Social Welfare Department, government of Manipur; RSB and ZSB; UdChalo, SBI, Axis, ICICI, PNB, HDFC Banks, were also established at the rally site. 

The special medical camp organised with various specialists at the rally site provided on the spot medical care and consultancy to over a thousand veterans and war widows. Pay rich tributes to the Indian Army Veterans, Veer Naris and Widows.
