One-month Thang-Ta training programme emphasises self-defense education

The Eastern Kala Vidya Thang-Ta Association (EKVTTA) successfully concluded a month-long training programme on Sarit-Sarak, focusing on imparting knowledge of self-defense through Manipur’s traditional martial art, Thang-Ta.

The programme culminated with a production by the participating trainees at Thang-Ta Shanglen, Nongmeibung in Imphal. It was organised under the Cultural Function and Production Grant 2022-23.

Director of EKVTTA, Thokchom Chitralekha Devi, emphasised the importance of self-defense education for youth, including girls, during the event. She highlighted the workshop’s objective to instill self-defense skills among the younger generation.

Devi also drew attention to the disparity in benefits received by Thang-Ta players compared to athletes in other disciplines, urging the government to ensure that youths are encouraged to participate in Thang-Ta, a cherished traditional martial art of Manipur.

The event was attended by Thang-Ta advisor Loisang Sana Konung Th Ibohanbi, EKVTTA president Kh Dhaballo Khaba, STL Craft and Training representative Y Achouba, EKVTTA advisor W Jin, KIMACS president N Ajit Mangang, and KIMACS founder A Tondon Luwang as presidium members.
