The omission of Sekmai in Imphal West and Sungu in Kakching district from the Manipur map allegedly published by the Manipur Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MRSAC) has sparked off concerns and raised questions about the authenticity of the widely circulated map.
The map, reportedly published by MRSAC under the Planning department in 2022, has caused unrest among the people of Manipur, who have pointed out the stark contrast to the 2011 version that included both Sekmai and Sugnu.
The controversy surrounding the Manipur map has raised questions about the reliability of geographical information disseminated by MRSAC and the Planning department.
The authorities are now under pressure to investigate the matter and provide a satisfactory explanation to the concerned citizens.
In response to the controversy, the New Development Organisation (NDO), Singjamei has drawn the attention of the concerned authorities, particularly the director of Planning, urging his office to rectify the map in case it was a result of human error.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Sunday, NDO chairman Oinam Romen expressed the deep concern felt by the people of Manipur due to the exclusion of Sekmai and Sugnu from the published map.
He highlighted that amidst the prevailing unrest, this omission could potentially exacerbate the ongoing crisis if not promptly addressed.
The NDO chairman further emphasised the importance of rectifying the alleged error and cautioned the authorities about the potential consequences if left unaddressed.
He urged the relevant authority to take immediate action and rectify the map to restore the faith of the people in the accuracy and credibility of official publications.
As the issue gains traction, many individuals and organisations in Manipur are closely monitoring the response from the authority concerned and eagerly await a resolution that will alleviate the fears and uncertainty caused by the alleged omission.
