NYK concludes Clean India Campaign

Total wastes of more than 1,231 kg had been collected during the campaign, a release stated.

Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Thoubal in association with War Memorial Trust Khongjom on Saturday concluded the Clean India Campaign as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, government of India.

A release by NYK stated NYK Thoubal volunteers and FDMC (Fatherland) Club, Khongjom Bazaar conducted a cleanliness drive of single use plastic wastes at Khongjom War Memorial Complex as well as water bodies in the complex. As an outreach program of Assam Rifles, a cleanliness drive was also conducted by Braves Sixteen Assam Rifles with NYK and NSS volunteers on Friday at 16 Assam Rifles, near Chaoyaima Hr Sec School Thoubal under the Campaign, it added.

It stated in the campaign, total wastes of more than 1,231 kg had been collected from which the recyclables had been collected by the self help groups of Khangabok area and PYC club Khangabok, and the non-recyclable wastes had been disposed by Thoubal Municipal Council.

The ‘Clean India’ Programme was aimed at creating awareness, mobilisation of people and ensuring involvement in the ‘Clean India’ initiative to clean waste, mainly single use plastic waste throughout the country and to make the programme as People’s Movement through Jan Bhagidari, it added.
