Manipur Health director Dr Kh Sasheekumar on Tuesday stated that nurses in the state are facing exploitation with stressful duties and small salaries in the name of experiences while working at private hospitals.
He was giving the presidential speech during the launching of the official web portal of Manipur Nursing Council at Hotel Classic in Imphal.
The director asserted that maintaining a clear data and status of all the nurses registered under the council through the web portal will ease the health department in convincing a policy to enable welfare of the nurses.
Pointing out that the web portal will help to ease the process of communication and minimise error in any registration process, he stressed the need of maintaining the portal with regular updates by the handlers.
Few days ago, the director had informed that a team of Health Services had started enquiring on the status of nurses in private hospitals across the state so that the directorate can bargain with the hospitals to improve the status of nurses in private hospitals.
As chief guest, Health Minister Dr S Ranjan spoke on the country’s advancement in digitisation which is regarded as one the fastest growing in digitisation process, even ahead of the United States.
Stating that the portal will be a one-stop solution for the government to collect data on the nurses from Manipur at the time of need, he stressed the need to keep a good flow in maintaining the portal.
Appreciating the nurses of the state for their commendable services with dedication, he said that as there is a high demand for nurses from Manipur outside states and overseas, there is a probability of facing shortages of nurses in the state in the near future.
The programme was also attended by state mission director of NHM Manipur Dr N Somorjit; director of AYUSH Dr Akoijam Lokendro and registrar of Manipur Nursing Council Dr A Jamuna as presidium members.
