Seeking fairness in government decision in the ongoing National Sports University (NSU) site dispute, the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) has appealed to the state government to not do anything that would hurt the sentiments of the local people in the area.

IPSA information and public relation secretary S Tombisana stated in a release on Tuesday that claiming a part of Imphal West district as a part of Kangpokpi district amid the problems of naming the site of the university is condemnable.

The state government is aware that the site of the university falls under Imphal West district and it has already been notified in the state gazette, the release stated.

The state government should remember that it should not do anything that can hurt the sentiments of locals of Koutruk and Senjam Khunou who have donated their land for constructing the university, the IPSA stated.

People who claimed the site of the university as a part of Kangpokpi district should be held responsible in case the university is shifted to other states due to the ongoing land dispute, said Tombisana in a release.

Changing the original names of a place which is commonly practised in the state should be avoided as it can lead to incidents similar with the case of the National Sports University, the IPSA added.
