NSCN-K (Yung Aung) on Thursday called upon all Nagas to reject the imposed conscription law in Myanmar, declaring that it is a violation of Nagas’ unique political and historical right.

Despite the genuine stand of the Naga people and the NSCN/GPRN, the recent declaration of the Myanmar government to enforce the mandatory conscription law in the Naga areas has sent a wrong message, stated a release signed by NSCN-K (Yung Aung) president.

Such a law by a Colonial ruler has absolutely no legal effect on the Naga because Nagas have sacrificed much for full sovereignty and the movement is still on, it stated.

“We call upon all Nagas to reject this imposed law as a violation of our unique political and historical right,” it mentioned.

This forced conscription on the Naga is illegal and will amount to forcing the Nagas to be involved in the Myanmar conflict and serve as a human shield which is unacceptable and we will reject it by any means, it stated. Nagas need not comply with this law and we call upon every forcibly conscripted Naga to report immediately to our nearest authority if such cases arise, it mentioned.

“With utmost respect I challenge every Naga to pick up your national yoke and safeguard your right from the external threat. No outsider will do it for us but us alone,” it stated.

The national security and defense of our country is not the responsibility of the NSCN/GPRN alone, but it is the birthright of every Naga. Each individual Naga is a resistance force, a protector and defender of our country, it stated.

“It is our national duty ordained to us by history. It is up to us whether to stand up and fight for our rights, or live a cowardly life under domination and shame forever. But we Nagas are not cowards nor lost people. We have stood the test of time and together we will rise again and face this threat and challenges of our time,” it stated.

This is an Emergency National Information to all Nagas about a serious issue which has emerged from the on-going Myanmar political crisis and the need to deal immediately with full initiative from all Nagas, it stated.

Due to Naga’s unique political condition, NSCN/GPRN has maintained a clean and clear non-interference policy with regard to the present Myanmar conflict and there should be no doubt about it, it mentioned.

Since day one of the conflict, NSCN/GPRN declared its stand forbidding the newly formed Myanmar People’s Defense Force (PDF) from operating in the Naga area to show that Myanmar had neither political legitimacy nor territorial control over the Naga country, it said.

Similarly, the NSCN/GPRN has strongly cautioned the Military government to refrain from diluting Naga areas with the present Myanmar conflict. This is to reflect our crystal-clear impartial stand as well to maintain the peaceful status quo of the Naga areas, it mentioned.

Nagas have always despised oppression and subjugation and our pain and suffering enable us to deeply empathise with the suffering of the ethnic People in Myanmar, it stated.

“Today our differences are just political principles. We have no ideological problem with our ethnic brothers because we share the same ideals and beliefs that all men are made equal and all should enjoy their freedom, liberty and freely pursue their own destiny. Throughout the decades of oppression under colonial India and Myanmar, our people have endured untold atrocities in the hands of their brutal armed forces,” it stated.

Today we Nagas have risen from the ashes of destruction and we will no longer tolerate being trampled over and over again, it added.

The oragnisaton’s president, Yung Aung also shared its message on the occasion of 44th Republic Day.
