Self-styled captain of NSCN (I-M) RS Winson along with seven Tangkhul individuals were reportedly slained by KNA (B) militants in a fierce gunbattle around 5.45 pm near the Indo-Myanmar border in Ango Ching across Tengnoupal district, Manipur on Sunday.
As per sources, a team led by RS Winson intercepted the KNA (B) militants who infiltrated into Manipur from Myanmar at Ango Ching near Penjang village under Machi Block in Tengnoupal district.
As per sources, the KNA (B) militants who crossed the border into India were headed towards the Heirok side when they were confronted by the NSCN (I-M) cadres. Security measures have been tightened around the area, following the incident.
The NSCN (I-M) organised a condolence service for RS Winson, Naga Army of Ngainga village at TNL Hall in Ukhrul district at 5 pm.
Meanwhile, the Rilram Area Maring Organisation (RAMO) has urged the Naga apex body, United Naga Council (UNC), and the All Naga Students Association Manipur to conduct a survey on the influx of refugees from Myanmar into Tamenglong district.
RAMO stated that upon receiving information about the encroachment of illegal immigrants in Tamenglong district, they initiated a survey at Chanringphai, Choktong N, Satang, and Sangtong Lamlong Khunou.
During the survey, it was observed that the migrants have already outnumbered the local residents, making it difficult for the village chiefs to control the refugees from encroaching further into the district.
RAMO further conveyed that the refugees have been crossing the Indo-Myanmar border intermittently right under the nose of Assam Rifles, while the Assam Rifles have reportedly refrained from intervening and remained silent spectators.
