The National People’s Party (NPP) on Friday said the party will be compelled to review whether to go along with the present state government if it failed to bring back normalcy at the earliest.

NPP National vice-president Yumnam Joykumar Singh told the media at the state party office located at Uripok, Imphal near Naoremthong on Friday that the NPP had declared its stance that the party will not compromise on Manipur territorial integrity at any cost.

The party had submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister regarding the present crisis in Manipur and urged to bring back normalcy at the earliest, he added.

He said that as per news reports, some Kuki militants under Suspension of Operation (SoO) are involved in the crisis. When the SoO agreement was signed with the Central government, it was mentioned that if the militants under SoO agreement violate the ground rules, then the state and Central forces will take stringent action against them, he said.

Recalling the Sugnu incident, Joykumar alleged that UKLF was involved in the attacks on the villagers in the Sugnu area and it cannot be claimed that the attack was carried out by Kuki village defence volunteers.

The authority concerned should review the SoO agreement signed between the Central government and the UKLF, he stated. If the ground rules are found to be violated, then immediate action should be taken by cancelling the agreement, he added.

He said the state and Central government need to take immediate steps in order to provide houses for the displaced people in connection with the crisis instead of providing relief materials.

Regarding the peace committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to bring normalcy in Manipur, he said that some members that are included in the committee already declined from participating in it.

The peace committee that was formed to bring back normalcy is similar to a stillborn child, he said. Such committees need to be formed with a smaller number of members, and it is not necessary to include 51 members in it, he added.

Similar to what the state JD(U) had expressed that its member included in the Peace Committee was not recommended by the party, NPP also did not recommend MLA Th Shanti for the Committee as neither prior information was given to Shanti nor the party, he said.

On the indefinite blockade that is imposed along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur), the vice president said the Union Home Minister should fulfil his assurance that was made during his visit to Manipur. Amit Shah had announced that the blockade along NH-2 will be lifted within two days but the blockade is still on, said Joykumar.

The valley had been held on ransom on many occasions and the government should find a permanent solution by providing a free route, he said. He appealed to the state and the Central government to take appropriate roles while bringing normalcy back to Manipur.
