Naga People’s Front (NPF) 43-Phungyar AC Unit on Sunday staged a democratic protest against the planned fencing along the artificial and imaginary Indo-Myanmar border and abolition of FMR in Naga ancestral territory by the Union Ministry of Home affairs.
NPF is a partner of the present government led by N Biren Singh and also part of BJP-led NDA. The decision to fence the entire stretch of Indo-Myanmar border and abolition of Free Movement Regime (FMR) was taken by the BJP government.
The protest was carried out at Kamjong public ground, stated a release. The Unit unequivocally deplored, decried and derided the move of the Centre and fervently appealed to all the citizens to support the movement against the planned border fencing and abolition of FMR.
It vehemently opposed the proposed construction of barbed wire along the Indo-Myanmar border and scrapping of the decades old FMR without prior consent of the Nagas, adding that they would be severely affected by such divisive and segregated Berlin wall like.
Such diabolic partition by erecting a fence along the Indo-Myanmar border would cut off all cultural, economic, religious and social ties with the Naga brothers and sisters living on the other side of the international borders, it lamented.
Opposing such a move to divide the Nagas, it noted that the division of India and Myanmar by the then Colonial British empire have allegedly adversely affected the blood relationship of the Nagas.
It maintained that the Centre’s alleged attempt to fence the Indo-Myanmar border in Naga ancestral domain and removal of Free movement Regime (FMR) is adding salt to the lingering wounds of the Nagas. Various placards and banners were also displayed during the protest, it mentioned.
