‘Not aware of leadership change’

Minister Th Biswajit takes salute at Manipur Police Raising Day

Manipur Chief Minister incharge Th Biswajit on Saturday stated he was not aware of any change in leadership of the government in the state.

He was speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the 133rd Raising Day function of Manipur Police in Imphal at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles parade ground.  

Replying to queries senior Minister Bishwajit said, “I have no information about any leadership transition or the memorandum mentioned in the media. I cannot confirm its validity,” he added.

The event, attended by a host of dignitaries, featured a vibrant march-past parade and a thrilling skill display by the Manipur Police Sports Club. Various awards and trophies were also distributed to honour outstanding contributions within the force.

Seniormost minister Th Bishwajit took the salute in the march-past as Chief Minister N Biren Singh was away in New Delhi.

The ceremony saw the attendance of Speaker Th Satyabarta, Ministers S Ranjan, Y Khemchand, Khashim Vashum, Th Basanta, H Dingo, and several MLAs and high-ranking officials from both central and state forces.

Key awards included the DGP Trophy for the Best Police Station, the DGP Award for the Best Police Officer, and the DGP Trophy for Best Battalion 2024.

The Lamphel Police Station from Imphal West District took home the DGP Trophy for Best Police Station while Jiribam Police Station and Churachandpur Women Police Station shared second place; Patsoi Police Station and Bishnupur Police Station secured the third prize.

In the Best Police Officer category, Sub Inspector L Sarjubala Devi from Bishnupur Women Police Station claimed the first prize with Sub Inspector Vashum Meena from Ukhrul Women Police Station taking second place.

The 1st Battalion of the Manipur Rifles earned the DGP Trophy for Best Battalion. The 2nd and 8th Battalions of the Manipur Rifles shared the second position, while the 8th Battalion of the Indian Reserve Commando Battalion, Khabeisoi, and the 5th Battalion of the Manipur Rifles received third place honors.

All award recipients were presented with trophies, commendation certificates, and cash rewards in recognition of their exemplary performance.

As part of the Raising Day celebrations, a “Run for Peace” was held in Bishnupur, drawing about 150 participants.

The event, flagged off by Bishnupur SP Ksh Ravikumar from Klasa Keinou, aimed to promote peace in the region, which has faced ongoing violence.

CSOs, local clubs, security personnel, and youth participated in the run, concluding at the SP office in Bishnupur.

Additionally, a separate peace run organised by Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup involved 60 elderly women, demonstrating the community’s commitment to peace.

SP Ksh Vikramjit, addressing the media, highlighted the need for initiatives promoting stability in Bishnupur, one of the districts most affected by recent unrest.

Following the peace run, Bishnupur police personnel conducted a cleanliness drive along the Klasa Keinou stretch of Tiddim Road. The effort aimed to promote environmental awareness, furthering the police’s role in community health and beautification efforts.
