The Imphal West district administration in Manipur on Friday decided not to entertain any permission for 'Thabal Chongba' or Shumang Leela as a part of the Yaoshang festival celebration till the completion of the Manipur Board and Council examinations for Class X, XI and XII, official sources said.
The order was issued after considering that gatherings of people and noises created by organising events, specially in the evening and in furthermore in residential areas may cause disturbance to the students preparing for the upcoming examinations, the district magistrate of Imphal West stated.
"Section 144 of Cr.P.C. has been imposed in the whole area situated within revenue district of Imphal West district, vide CRIL. MISC CASE NO. 4 of 2022 dated March 23, taking into consideration the likelihood of serious breach of peace and disturbance to the public tranquility," the order stated.
The order also imposed banned on organising Shumang Leela and concerts in residential areas after 7 pm till the completion of the said examinations.
No road should be closed or diverted for any of the above mentioned purposes, it added.
