Sending a clarion call on state’s campaign against drugs, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday issued a strong warning that drug addicts or users in the state police department would be given forced retirement.
The chief minister stated this on the side-lines of flag off ceremony of ‘Career on Wheels’ programme in front of CM Secretariat, Babupara, Imphal.
He further said the two Sub-Inspectors (SIs) who were earlier arrested along with drugs from Lilong Leihaokhong Leikai on Wednesday will be terminated.
The two SIs namely Tamijur and Rijwan were posted at the narcotic cell, Imphal East and Tengnoupal district police presently attached at Imphal East district police.
Biren said both the police officers have been suspended from their services and were asked to surrender themselves by Friday. However, as they failed to surrender themselves, they will be arrested and terminated from their services as follow up action, he said. The government will not tolerate any drug related cases, he added.
In the last few months, some of the police personnel were found to be involved in drug-related cases while the present Biren 2.0 coalition government has been taking up various initiatives to eradicate drugs from Manipur.
Most of the civil society organisations of hill districts have started extending support to CM’s ‘War on Drugs’ campaign. Recently, village chiefs, and leaders of various districts and areas including Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong, Noney, Tengnoupal, Saikul and Kangpokpi declared to support the ‘War on Drugs’, campaign.
Chief minister N Biren had also expressed that with collective support from the public and various CSOs, the campaign will become 100 per cent successful.
