Expressing profound concerns over the killing of innocent people in Jiribam, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Manipur Tangkhul community's apex body, categorically stated that there is absolutely no justification whatsoever to kill those helpless innocent women and children for killing begets killing.
The spate of brutal killings in the last few days at Jiribam that have claimed several precious lives has "simply shocked and battered the spirit of humanity in us", the TNL said.
"Yes, in life, we do face conflicts and the parties on either sides of the conflict forced themselves into physical confrontation leading to unwelcome consequences such as killings," RS Jollyson vice president, Tangkhul Naga Long, said in a release on Tuesday.
However, on such pretext, allowing ourselves to be consumed by beastly instinct as to go onto "killing spree" of helpless and innocents, has got no place in civilized society, he said. While we are not able to vouch for the identity and status of those young people killed from both the parties in the first instant, there is absolutely no justification whatsoever, to kill those helpless innocent women and children, he added.
Let us be human enough to remember that in killing them the way they were killed, we have only "massacred the soul of humanity in us," the TNL said.
