MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh alias Keba on Friday said Patsoi assembly constituency will become free from imported ice packed fish by 2023.
Speaking during the release of fish fingerlings at Heinoubok community pond on Friday, the MLA said most of the people of the state have been consuming imported ice-packed fish for decades. To overcome and replace it with local fish, he started releasing different varieties of fish fingerlings in 37 community ponds of Patsoi assembly constituency, the MLA informed.
Keba said most of the people of the Patsoi assembly constituency have a passion for pisciculture. By taking the advantage of the passion of people and to generate income more fish will be released in the entire 37 community ponds thereby by 2023, Patsoi assembly constituency will become a dependent free constituency from imported ice packed fish, he added.
For maintenance of the community pond the respective local clubs have volunteered, he added.
With regards to lifting of prohibition in the state, Keba said that the government is discussing production of a white paper as per demand of some of the civil society organisations. He said drafting the white paper needs understanding between the government and people of the state.
He appealed to the CSOs to hold a meeting with the government to draft a regulation regarding pros and cons before the legalisation of alcohol is implemented.
