The Manipur Congress on Wednesday said that there is no transparency and no evidence of talks between Meitei and Kuki groups to resolve the crisis in the state as claimed by Union Minister Amit Shah.

Addressing the press at the Congress Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday, Manipur Congress working president Kh Devbrata Singh said, “On the completion of 100 days of Modi 3, Amit Shah claimed that there have been talks with both Meitei and Kuki groups to sort the issues in the state. However, there are no evidence of such talks on the ground level. There is lack of transparency in his statement.”

“Centre needs to provide details of the groups involved in the dialogue as there are numerous groups in the valley. Talks with one group alone will not be sufficient. It’s hard to believe that dialogue is going on as nothing could be seen on the ground level. We demand to know who are the groups involved in the dialogue” Devabrata added.

On the recent statement of CM Biren about the involvement of foreign hands in the crisis, the senior congress leader said, “CM said that recently a cadre of KNA(B) was arrested showing the involvement of foreign hands in the crisis. But the involvement of foreign hands is missing in Shah’s statement. We think it would give more weight if involvement of foreign hands came from the Centre.”

Devbrata also demanded clarification on the circulation of a document signed allegedly by secretary N Geoffrey to CM stating that 900 trained Kuki militants have moved to the nearby hills of Imphal valley and is planning to carry out a “multiple coordinated attacks on Meitei villages around September 28.”

“The official document circulating in social media and which is addressed to the DGP has created panic in the fringe areas of Imphal valley and there have been reports of building up of bunkers to safeguard life and properties. We demand clarification from the CM and the Secretary to the CM”, he said.

On the recent clearance of one nation, one election, the Congress leader said “it will be very difficult to implement in a country like India with a huge population. Last time there were 90 plus crore voters. To give sufficient protection to all polling booths will be very difficult.”
