Employees of Tamenglong and Noney district, especially employees belonging to the Meitei community have urged the Manipur government and concerned authorities to arrange alternatives for discharging their coming election duty instead of deploying them at hill districts as it is not safe due to the prevailing crisis.

One of the employees, Nongmaithem Hemchandra, told the media at the Manipur Press Club in Majorkhul, Imphal on Wednesday that there are over 400 employees (Meitei) in Tamenglong and Noney district and for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha election, the employees are to be deployed for election duty at the said districts.

He said due to the prevailing situation in Manipur, employees do not feel safe going to hill districts for discharging their election duty. The employees are against election duty, he said, but that we urged the concerned authorities to arrange an alternative instead of deploying them to the hill districts.

He questioned how an employee could go to Noney and Tamenglong districts for election duty by crossing the buffer zone and urged the government to deploy them in safe zones instead of deploying the employees to vulnerable areas.
