The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) has expressed its discontentment towards the Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation (RNYO) for calling indefinite bandh from 6 am of November 9 without the consent of Rongmei people.

The council has endorsed and appreciated the legitimate demands by different organisations for shifting of site to best suited location as per NLC guidelines and naming the project after freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu as approved by the Centre. The demands of the people are expected to be fulfilled without further delay, said joint secretary of RNCM, Jacob Gonmei in a release.

However, at such juncture, the indefinite bandh declared by RNYO is inappropriate and such move at the unsuited time is uncalled for, which could even further tarnish the image of the Rani Gaidinliu who is a National figure from Rongmei tribe. Therefore, the declared bandh is not applicable in all Rongmei areas within the state since it does not possess the consent and mandate of the Rongmei people, he added.

He also stated that the Rongmei civil organisations are against the present site at Makhel for the iconic project as Makhel is not within the NLC guidelines. The matter has been discussed with the government and is on the table of the chief minister.
