A 26-membered delegation of stakeholders from the dairy sector in Nigeria visited Manipur.
MaolKeki Foundation, in a release on Monday, said that the delegation, organised and led by Abuja-based Sahel Consulting Agriculture and Nutrition Limited, includes CEOs, government officials, veterinarians, technicians and consultants from the Nigerian dairy sector.
The team visited Royal Dairy Farm in Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district where they were given a tour of the farm by one Abung Ningthoujam, who is a farmer, it stated. They also visited the Relief Camp in Khoyol Keithel in Moirang while en route to Sendra, it mentioned.
A brief interaction was also held with farmers of Bishnupur District Milk Co-operative Union Limited, it added. Later the delegation headed to the Manipur Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Limited in Porompat, wherein they were accorded a warm welcome by MD, Kenedy Seram, who briefed on the dairy sector in Manipur and also gave a tour of the facility which is currently undergoing transformation with support from NDDB, it stated.
The delegation also visited Kangla fort and EMA market, it stated. The visit ended with a reception in which a Manipuri cultural show was showcased, it mentioned.
The Nigerian team were feted with lengyans and gifts made by Internally Displaced Persons, it stated.
They have been on a study tour of the Indian dairy sector for the last nine days, it maintained.
It noted that the team had also visited Anand in Gujarat, to learn about Amul, the milk cooperative movement, animal husbandry, and also met with dairy farmers and cooperatives there.
