The Tousem Area student's organisation (TASO) on Saturday condemned the alleged irresponsibility of NHIDCL and its construction companies and demanded to reconstruct all the unwanted alignment between Tamenglong Headquarters and Tousem Sub Divisional Headquarters within 10 days.

Media and publicity wing in a statement said that the TASO deeply regrets an incident that took place between Mandeu village and Makhru River under Tousem Sub-Division on Friday. The miserable road conditions left many with serious injuries, it stated.

The statement said that the several approaches made to the Government of Manipur, including the NHIDCL and its cooperating unit to make safer roads have fallen on deaf ears.

The old road connecting district headquarter and subdivisional headquarters is being dismantled by the construction companies for the purpose of constructing the NH 137, while the alternative roads constructed become worse than ever following the alignment. It has become accident prone for the travelers, the statement said.

The Tousem people support any developmental projects undertaken by the Central and state governments, but the basic needs of the people should not be neglected, it mentioned.

The organisation also urged the district administration to look into the health facility in Tousem PHC immediately.

“We condemn the irresponsibility of the NHIDCL and its construction companies and ask to reconstruct all the unwanted alignment between Tamenglong Headquarters and Tousem Sub Divisional Headquarters within 10 days from this day,” it mentioned.

Serious consequences will be imposed on the failure to initiate corrective measures within the given time, it mentioned. Also any fatalities in the future will be the sole responsibility of NHIDCL and road construction companies, it said.

The student body also urged all the civil society organisations and concerned citizens to cooperate with the organisation.
