“Khangminnasi: An Exhibition on Legal Aid and Services”, a new project of the Manipur State Legal Service Authority was launched on Wednesday at Lamphelpat Court Complex, Imphal West by justice Aribam Guneshwar Sharma of High Court of Manipur and chairperson, High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC).
The project was undertaken as a part of the authority’s outreach drive to educate the masses on their legal rights.
The main aim of the said exhibition, which will be held for 5 working days at each court complexes, is to educate and provide awareness to the masses especially those visiting the court complexes on legal aid and services provided by legal services institutions and process of availing them. It is also especially for weaker sections of the society to ensure that opportunities of securing justice are not denied to any person by reason of economic, social or other disabilities.
The exhibition also displays boards on law related information, legal aid system, etc. all around the court complex so that the public, litigants, police personnel, advocates who visit the court complex are aware of various rights, information. Moreover, PLVs and staff are also deputed to distribute leaflets, brochures, pamphlets etc.
The exhibition also promotes Lok Adalat and mediation as important, speedy and cost-effective alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
The exhibition will be organised at all the court complexes of the state at a phase-wise manner starting from Lamphelpat Court Complex, Imphal West, Manipur in collaboration with concerned District Legal Services Authorities.
The programme was attended by Salam Imocha Singh, Special Judge POCSO Court I; RK Memcha Devi, District and Sessions Judge, Imphal West; W Tonen Meitei, District and Sessions Judge Imphal East; Samom Ibjen, District and Sessions Judge, Thoubal; Letkho Kipgen, District and Sessions Judge, Bishnupur; Ojesh Mutum, Member Secretary, Manipur SLSA; Tomcha Puyam, President All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA), Chanam Kiranbala, President, All Manipur Lady Advocates Association (AMLAA), Judicial Officers and advocates; staff and PLVs of Manipur State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority.
