Manipur State Council Communist Party of India (MSC-CPI), former secretary L Sotinkumar, while citing various issues confronting the state, said that the revival of the ideologies of Hijam Irawat is the need of hour to transform and bring the society in the right direction where there is peace, tranquillity and equality.
He was speaking at the 126th birth anniversary celebration of Hijam Irawat organised by Irawat Celebration Committee (ICC) at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound Imphal East on Friday.
The celebration was started by a parade competition which was attended by around 43 contingents. It was followed by paying floral tributes to the portrait of freedom fighter Hijam Irawat.

Addressing the function as a presidium member, Sotinkumar said that Hijam Irawat sacrificed his life for the working class with the vision of promoting equality in the society. But the present condition of Manipur is completely opposite to that what Irawat had dreamt about, he said.
As an impact of privatisation and globalisation, the people are suffering from many challenges, he mentioned. The gap between the rich and poor has been widening each year, he said. Besides, the problem of corruption and unemployment is mounting in the state, he added.
Concerning the legalisation of liquor in the state, he said that the present government “may even legalise corruption in the state after some years.”

He asserted that the time has arrived to revive or enliven the ideology of Hijam Irawat for the sake of future generations. The society can be uplifted equally without side-lining any communities through his ideologies, he added.
It is fortunate to learn that the birth anniversary of Hijam Irawat is being celebrated in many countries like the USA, Latin America, Thailand, Bangladesh, Myanmar, he said. This shows that Hijam Irawat is one of the internationally accepted revolutionaries. The present generation should pay highest forms of respect and follow his visions and ideology, he added.
As a part of the programme, various awards were presented to the people working in different professions by recognising their contributions in society.
