Free internet connection that was launched by the present government as a part of its 100-day programme during June 2007 has beendistrict continuing, and necessary steps have been taken to avail more internet connection in other areas of Manipur, said chief minister N Biren, who is also the minister in-charge of Information and Technology.
The CM was informing the House against the cut motion raised by opposition MLA, Surjakumar Okram during the demand and discussion on information technology on Wednesday.
He said that the free internet connection in five places namely Paona Bazaar, Thangal Bazaar, old secretariat, new secretariat and JNIMS was provided during the 100-day programme of the present government which is still continuing.
During the growth of information technology, there had been various benefits to the people in many sectors.
Eventually, the government has introduced e-filing in various departments. To give more internet connection in government departments, installation of optical fibers are still continuing, he added.
Biren further said that to avail internet service in far flung places of Manipur, mobile towers of Airtel and Jio service providers will be installed at Dzuko and Behiang, Churachandpur district.
