Nearly 3000 hectares of paddy fields flooded by incessant rains in Manipur's Kakching

Kakching district agriculture officer Naorem Joykumar said that that around 1,480 hectares of paddy fields in Kakching assembly constituency were severely damaged by the flooding, making it the most affected area.

District agriculture officer Kakching Naorem Joykumar on Tuesday announced that continuous rainfall over the past seven days has submerged as many as 2,885 hectares of paddy fields in Kakching district, Manipur.

Speaking to the media, Joykumar stated that around 1,480 hectares of paddy fields in Kakching assembly constituency were severely damaged by the flooding, making it the most affected area. Meanwhile, 630 hectares in Wabagai assembly constituency and 385 hectares in Sugnu assembly constituency were also destroyed by the floods.

He further detailed that at least 20 hectares in Nungu Sanamahi Loukol, 10 hectares in Chinglak Loukol, 120 hectares in Mantak Loushi Loukol, 900 hectares including fish farms in Loushi Loukol, 50 hectares in Mairenbam Awang Loukol, 70 hectares in Leingang Loukol, 10 hectares in Lengba Loukol, and 300 hectares in Sora Loukol under Kakching constituency were all destroyed by the flood.

In Wabagai assembly constituency, 100 hectares in Mairembam and Sanarou Loukol, 100 hectares in Tera Urak Mamang Loukol, 50 hectares in Keirak Awang Loukol, 50 hectares in Thingel Loukol, 200 hectares in Pasang Loukol, 100 hectares in Luwangtou Loukol, 60 to 70 hectares in Wabagai Awang Loukol, and 50 hectares in Kangjeibung Loukol were also severely affected.

Meanwhile, in Hiyanglam assembly constituency, 40 hectares in Lourel/Tolang Waikhong Loukol, 50 hectares in Awangbal Loukol, 70 hectares in Kakmayai Loukol, 50 hectares in Utlai Loukol, 40 hectares in Moiranglou Loukol, 40 hectares in Waikhom Leikai Loukol, and 100 hectares in Wanglou Loukol were inundated.

In Sugnu assembly constituency, 4 hectares in Chingdum Loukol, 5 hectares in Moirang Palli Loukol, 10 hectares in Makhao Loukol, 5 hectares in Nongang Loukol, 50 hectares in Nungoo Khongyam Loukol, 100 hectares in Chairel 86 Loukol, 50 hectares in Wangoo Chairel Loukol, 30 hectares in Namnam Loukol, 30 hectares in Wangoo Mamang Loukol, and 100 hectares in Kakching Khunou Loukol were submerged.

Joykumar mentioned that these figures represent only the current report and that further investigation will be conducted to assess additional damage. The flood not only affected Phourel Loupham but also Taothabi Loupha and numerous fish farms; however, comprehensive reports have yet to be received.

Many houses from Irong to Santhel under Wabagai assembly constituency were inundated, along with homes in Keirak Awang, Wabagai Mairenbam, and Wabagai Turel Mamei areas. Several houses in Hiyanglam, Tokpaching, Sarik Konjil, Arong Nongmaikhong, and Laphupat Tera were also flooded.
