Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday said that the naked parade video which went viral last year was uploaded on social media by a Meitei and made viral by the Congress led Opposition parties with the intention of defaming the BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while the actual events leading to the rescue of the two women by some women and youths from Meitei community were ignored deliberately.
He was speaking at the ‘Yuva Sammelan’ held at Thambal Shanglen, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal on Sunday.
Since the violence erupted on May 3, many have been trying to blame the BJP government and insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Any small issue was instigated to escalate it into violence, he added.
To bring the issue under control, Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself visited and stayed in Manipur. However, the video was made viral on social media right before the starting of Parliamentary session just to insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP government with incomplete narratives, he added.
The two women were rescued by the youths and women of the Meitei community of the area, but the full narrative of the incident was avoided by those who wanted to defame the BJP government, he said. The facts behind the incident will be revealed in the investigations, he maintained.

He further said the workers of BJP should not feel hesitant to campaign for the election as no activities against the people of Manipur were done by the BJP government. The Lok Sabha election campaign should be carried out and it should be issue based, he said.
The BJP government has fulfilled various long term demands of Manipur, such as the scrapping of FMR, starting the construction work for border fencing, collection of data through biometric which is a first step of NRC. Meanwhile, the Congress party never mentioned about the NRC, said Biren.
He questioned if the people should vote for the BJP which has been fulfilling the demands of people in connection with the present violence or the Congress party which does not want to implement NRC in Manipur.

He further appealed to the media houses, online news broadcasters and electronic media to publish news that can bring peace to the society by dropping the video clips of violence which are shown before starting programmes.
State BJP president A Sharda Devi said that there was no political party that came out to help the needy people during the initial period of the ongoing violence. But BJP being a ruling party has been providing necessary assistance to the needy people since May last year, she asserted.
