Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio led the Naga People's Front (NPF) campaign for the Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2022 which was launched in Senapati district on Wednesday. He wished the NPF, an ally of his United Democratic Alliance government in Nagaland, success in the Manipur elections.
"Attended campaign kick-off for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2022 of the Naga People's Front, an ally of the United Democratic Alliance government in Nagaland. My best wishes to the candidates and I wish them success," the chief minister tweeted.
Emphasising the need for Naga peace agreement during the campaign in Manipur, among others, Rio urged all Naga voters in Manipur to vote for NPF candidates in the state.
"We must not say that the Naga movement is a failure... The central government has recognized our unique history and recognised the Naga movement as a political issue and these are big things for us," Rio said during the campaign launch programme in Senapati.
Manipur is set to go for the 12th Assembly polls in two phases on February 28 and March 5. At least 10 NPF candidates are in fray for the elections this time. The NPF candidates includes four sitting MLAs --Losii Dikho from Mao constituency in Senapati district, Awangbou Newmai from Tamei constituency in Tamenglong, Leishiyo Keishing from Phungyar AC in Kamjong district and Kashim Vashum from Chingai AC in Ukhrul. The others in the list includes - Langhu Paulhring Anal for 41-Chandel (ST); D Korungthang Maring, who left the Congress and joined the NPF, was chosen for 42-Tengnoupal (ST); Ram Muivah for 44-Ukhrul (ST); Khoho Siile Antony for 47-Karong (ST); M Francis Ngajokpa for 49-Tadubi; and Khangthuanang Panmei for 53-Tamenglong (ST).
