At least seven Myanmar nationals have reportedly received treatment for bullet and explosive injuries at Churachandpur District Hospital. The report has raised concerns among the people of Manipur and it is being questioned whether the state and central governments are aware of the situation.

According to highly reliable sources, the injured individuals were identified as Thargyi, Khaipi, Lulminlal, Konan, Joky, Awngphyowai, and Ngamboi – all from border town Tamu in Myanmar. The attendant, identified as David Thetpaing U, has been taking care of the injured, the sources added.

The sources said that Thargyi, Khaipi, and Lulminlal were admitted to the Ortho ward of the hospital on June 15, occupying beds numbered 11, 15, and 14, respectively. Thargyi sustained explosive injuries on his left hand and right cheek, while Khaipi and Lulminlal suffered bullet injuries on their right shoulder and left shoulder respectively.

On June 17, Konan and Joky were admitted to the Ortho ward and the ICU bed No 9 respectively. Konan suffered a minor explosive injury on his left eye and has been discharged, while Joky is still undergoing treatment in the ICU due to a bullet injury on his abdomen.

Awangpyowai and Ngamboi were admitted to the Ortho ward on April 20 after sustaining explosive injuries. Awangpyowai suffered an injury on his right leg while Ngamboi sustained injuries on her left hand and right arm, the sources said.

The place of occurrence of these injuries is yet to be ascertained.

However, as five of the injuries were reported to have occurred in June, there is a possibility that the incidents took place within the state, as ongoing exchanges of gunfire have been reported in the adjoining areas of Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts since May.

Simultaneously, considering the ongoing unrest in Myanmar, there is also a probability that the injured individuals might be victims of the junta in Myanmar.

The treatment of these Myanmar nationals, due to explosive and bullet injuries, has raised significant concerns among the people of Manipur, including the launching of a helicopter service from Churachandpur via Imphal via Moreh.

Illegal influx from Myanmar has been one of the main factors contributing to the ongoing crisis in the region.

Additionally, the valley brethren have alleged the involvement of Myanmar-based PDA in random attacks carried out in the peripheral areas of the valley.

It remains doubtful whether the state or central government authorities are aware of the treatment being provided to Myanmar nationals at a district hospital in Manipur.
