Myanmar releases 23 Indian prisoners at Tamu-Moreh border

The Myanmar Authority led by immigration officer Tamu Township, Myanmar Aung Kyaw Soe handed over the 23 Indian prisoners to the Indian Authority at Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, Moreh.

The Myanmar government released 23 Indian prisoners at Tamu-Moreh border on Wednesday, amid the prevailing unrest in the country following the military coup that took place in February this year.

Of the 23 prisoners, one is a female while the rest are males. One prisoner each hails from Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and the remaining 21 are from different districts of Manipur.

The Myanmar government and the Indian government earlier held a meeting at ICP Moreh on June 19, during which the Myanmar government offered to release 36 Indian prisoners lodged in Kalay Prison. The Myanmar delegation was led by commander RCC Kalay U Thant Zin Oo and the Indian delegation was led by major general IGAR (South) Alok Naresh.

The nationality verification of 23 out of 36 prisoners has been completed and they were released at Tamu-Moreh border in Tengnoupal district of Manipur.

They were received by senior immigration officer, SK Gangte YK Anand Singh, SP LCS Moreh N Romina, inspector LCS Anand, a team of Moreh police led by SI J Baite.

A medical team from Moreh Hospital conducted COVID -19 tests to all the 23 Indians and they were found to be negative.

The 23 Indian Prisoners released on Wednesday are Satgoulun Misao, 21, son of Hangkholun Misao of Tolbung; Letthenpao, 31, son of Holthang of Songpi village; Zamkhothang, 34, son of Zamkholun of Simual village; Lamkholal alias Lalbem, 42, son of Lamkholun of LH Jangnuamphai; Lunkholal, 35, son of Jamkhopao of Thingjang; Abel, 43, son of Ayo of Wangbi;  Abit Hussain, 22, son of Siraj Ahmad; Atulkumar Chouksey, 28, son of Manaklal Chouksey of Seoni, Madhya Pradesh; Niluram, 29, son of (L) Tandon alias Ramcharan of Nicham district, Uttar Pradesh; Ningkhan Phungsok, 22, son of Yarteo Phungsok of Kamjong; Milinium Vashum, 20, son of John Bos of Kharam Khullen village; Chuimei VashumIi, 18, son of John Bos of Kharam Khullen village; Nang Do Munga, 23, son of Ngenmang of Siseh, Mizoram; Tlunga, 27, son of Famkima of Moreh Ward No III; Hemkhosei, 33,  son of Letkam of Canan Veng, Moreh; Seiminthang Chongloi, 22, son of Jamlun Chongloi of Tuidam village, Chandel District Manipur; Thongminthang, 24, son of Jangpao of Tuidam village; Seikholun, 24, son of Thanglun of Changpol villag; Ngakte, 46, son of Khan Lien of Molcham village, Chandel district; Tingboi, 42, daughter of Lamkholun of Molcham Village; Malsawmthang, 41, son of Lalliena of Molcham village; Rochanglen, 42, son of Ruesang of Molcham; Isreal, 38, son of Ruesang of Molcham.
