The Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur has notified in a memorandum to all Food Business Operators (FBOs) and consumers in the state that ‘any multi sourced edible vegetable oil containing mustard oil manufactured on or after June 8, 2021’ is prohibited to be sold in the market for consumption.
It stated that following the notification of Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI), New Delhi, it has been ordered to prohibit blending of mustard oil for production of multi sourced edible oil.
It should not be sold in loose form as well instead be sold in sealed packaging weighing not more than 15 kg. The container having multi source edible vegetable oil shall be tampered proof, the order said.
It also stated that the said oil should not be sold under the common name or generic name of the oil used in the blend but to be sold as multi source edible vegetable oil.
The sealed package should be sold or offered for sale only under AGMARK certification bearing the label declaration as provided in the regulation of Food Safety and Standard (prohibition and restriction on sale) third amendment regulation 2021, besides other labeling requirements under the regulation.
