Teachers of Manipur University of Culture Guest Faculty Association (MUCGFA) on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the old Secretariat, Babupara in Imphal demanding authorities concerned to remove the present registrar of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) from his post within five days.
Following the protest, members of MUCGFA met with Art and Culture commissioner M Joy to discuss the matter and resolve the demands.
MUCGFA’s main charter of demands raised during the protest include removal of MUC registrar Laishram Radhakanta within five days, regularisation of the 28 guest faculties at MUC, to provide suitable classrooms to conduct daily classes within one week and to allocate the provision for teaching facilities and academic activities as mentioned in NEP 2020.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines, MUCGFA president B Gopiraman Sharma highlighted that MUC was ranked second best cultural university in the entire nation.
“Sports, art and culture are the backbone of Manipuri identity but hegemonic influences and improper conduct can seriously deter the growth of such areas,” he said.
As such, he demanded the immediate removal of the tasteless MUC registrar who has reportedly crossed the boundaries of his decorum.
We want the government to take note of the issue and act swiftly to save the university from further deterioration, Sharma said.
