MSPP begins protest in Delhi over MGNREGA funds

MSPP submitted a memorandum to the PMO and met with Union minister RK Ranjan, demanding release of MGNREGA funds.

The Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) on Thursday began a protest in Delhi against the state government for not releasing the MGNREGA funds and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

MSPP president and Leishangthem zilla parishad member Md Abdul Latif stated in a release, “As the state government had ignored the demands of the MSPP, a team of MSPP members led by the president arrived in Delhi yesterday and commenced the protest.”

As a part of the protest, MSPP submitted a memorandum to the PMO and met with Union minister RK Ranjan, it mentioned.

The team is also preparing to meet with the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development union ministers and the MPs of outer Manipur and Rajya Sabha as well, it stated.

The demands of the MSPP include the release of all due liabilities funds of MGNREGA for the financial year 2021-2022 promptly, the timely conduct of the 6th general panchayat election as well as giving power to the panchayat, it added.
