The Manipur People's Party (MPP) on Saturday expressed its opposition to the demand for a separate administration in Manipur, stating that the entire state belongs to all ethnic groups residing within it.

Speaking to the media during a sit-in protest held in front of the MPP office in Imphal, its president Ch Shamjai condemned what he referred to as the invasion by "Chin-Zo-Kuki (foreigners)" in Manipur.

He lamented the violence faced by Meetei civilians at the hands of Kuki militants who are advocating for a separate administration.

Deeming their demand unreasonable and unattainable, he expressed dissatisfaction with the central government's response to the ongoing unrest, which has now extended for 53 days.

It further criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for seemingly neglecting Manipur as a part of India.

In response to Chief Minister N Biren's recent statement regarding the provision of temporary housing for displaced individuals, the MPP president declared it unacceptable. He called upon the government to develop a resettlement mechanism that allows displaced people to return to their own land.

Shamjai further expressed disapproval of CM Biren's suggestion to remove bunkers constructed by Kuki militants. He emphasised the need for immediate action, stating that the desired message should be "bunkers are removed" rather than "bunkers will be removed."

During the sit-in protest, banners were displayed with slogans such as "No separate administration in Manipur" and "Ekhoi ereipak eramdam eikhoi khktana ngakchagadabani," highlighting the opposition to the demand for a separate administration and emphasising unity in Manipur.
